About the Centre

XLRI-Centre for Global South Studies

Think tank approach for multidisciplinary studies on the Global South Academics and scholars from across the world who are interested in studying the Global South and its relationships to the North can find a welcoming home at the XLRI-Centre for Global South Studies (C-GLOSS). The center serves as a focal point for projects and activities that would call for the involvement of several disciplines

In order to bring attention to and critically address common issues and resources, the phrase "Global South" emerged from a desire to form partnerships amongst traditionally marginalised areas. However, these countries are also showing remarkable signs of resilience, resurgence, growth, and innovation. This apart, people and places in the "Global South" have suffered greatly as a result of colonisation and modern-day global capitalism. The center acknowledges that there are pockets of the South in the North and vice-versa, and the center takes into consideration and appreciates the opportunity to learn from the experiences of the repressed groups even inside the wealthy nations.

Activities

Intellectual Contribution

The Centre for Global South Studies (CGLOSS) hopes, over time, to develop into a think tank for business and management research grounded in the Global South.

Much of what is taught and written about business still draws on the experience of a small number of economies. The Centre wants to make room for research that begins from the histories, institutions and enterprises of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Special Issue

Indigenous entrepreneurship under colonial rule — Business History

As an early expression of this thinking, Himadri Roy Chaudhuri is co-editing a Special Issue for the prestigious journal Business History, on indigenous entrepreneurship under colonial rule. The call for papers drew proposals from scholars around the world.

Collaborate with us

CGLOSS intends to encourage and support more initiatives of this kind. Scholars from the Global South who are planning special issues, workshops or collaborative research in business and management are welcome to contact the Centre.
